After successfully debuting last year, the Cowboy Half Marathon is set to thrill runners from throughout the Four Corners for a second consecutive season.

The 13.1-mile race that takes runners towards Weber Canyon and back will take place on May 16 at 9 a.m. Between 75 and 100 runners from around the Four Corners are expected to attend after 62 runners showed up last year.

"We'll have a professional timing company and live music will be provided Neil Nelson and the Saloonatics," said race organizer Ben Haun. "The Mancos Brewery will be doing our beverages after the race and I expect everyone will have a good time."

Among the perks that figure to draw runners to this year's race include a scenic course that stretches along County Road 41 and offers picturesque views of the Southwest landscape.

"Runners will get to see sweeping views of Mesa Verde on the way out," said Haun said. "On the way back, the La Plata (Mountains) will be visible on the horizon."

The cost of the race is $75 and includes a soft-tech race shirt, a bag of goodies, post-race refreshments and a beer garden. Runners can register at www.cowboyhalfmarathon.com or at Boyle Park in Mancos between 7:30 and 8:30 a.m. on May 16.
