Come Back to My Valley

Since this is the last issue of the Mancos Times it seems appropriate to list couples in which one or both of them have passed away. Anyone who has lived in Mancos for 10 or more years should have known or at least have heard about a few of them.

Clay and Jean Bader, Herman and Abbie Jane Wagner, Sally and Haralson Weaver, Wes and Anne Potts, Harry and Marge Halls, Russell and Faye Culp, Dick and Vergie Edwards, Steve and Gwen Hawkins, and Jake and Roma Riffel.

Kay and Bill Sanders, Hugh and Lillian Eppich, Jerry and Joyce Decker, Fern (who contributed to the Mancos Times for many years) and Vernon Ellis, Ellen (who was closely associated with the Mancos Times for many years) and Jim Holston.

Avis (a grade school teacher in Mancos) and Jack Bircher, Donitta Cox and Richard Blackston, Linden and Velma Cox, Margarita and Patricio Velasquez and James Barton Cook.

Ira and Beatrice Cox, Norman and Josephine Deal, Tom and Elly Decker, Betty Lou and Frank DeVore, Joe and Albert Eppich (brothers), Myrtle and Vosco Burnham, Paul and Audrey Frazier, Ira (a publisher of the Mancos Times) and Susan Freeman, Victor and Josephine Gallegos.

Claude (Dana's father) Gawthrop, Dessa (She was a Mancos school teacher for 10 yeas) and Arnold Riffey, Doy and Mary Ann Graff, Platt and Bertha Hammond, Lester and Emma Hightchew, Worth and Lenore Holder and son Clyde, Kenneth and Mary Hopperton, Gary and Lolly Humiston, Peri (She started teaching in 1919 and retired from teaching in Mancos in 1969) and Charley Knisley, Mark and Mona Lawson.

Lindy (He was a pharmacist and owner of the Mancos Drug Store for many Maurice (She taught home economics and eighth grade in Mancos for many years) and John Ritter, Arlo and Harriet Robb, Eddie and Dixie Robbins, Kenneth and Mildred Ross, Rea and Hazel Schamp, Jim and Pauline Smith, Olen and Mildred Spencer, Art and Verna Towne, Herb and Janice Hawkins, Selma and Van Willis, Doug and Kathy Wyman and Hazel and Dick Yeomans.

The Mancos Times was first published in April 1893 by C.M. Danford and W.H. "Muldoon" Kelly assisted in printing it.
